The trial of two people accused of starving seven-year-old Khyra Ishaq to death has been halted after three members of the jury were discharged.
Khyra’s mother, Angela Gordon, and Gordon’s partner, Junaid Abuhamza, who have pleaded not guilty to murdering Khyra, will face a retrial next year.
At the hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, which began on 3 June, Gordon , 34, denied starving Khyra to death. She also pleaded not guilty to five charges of cruelty relating to other children. But Abuhamza, 30, pleaded guilty to the same cruelty charges.
Khyra died in May 2008 after being found by paramedics at her home in the Handsworth area of Birmingham.
